Cubic ink 3D printing materials
Group of chemical specialties ALTANA and manufacturer of 3D printers polar dp has produced three new families of Cubic Ink 3D printing materials, high performance with heat resistance and multi-material capability.
A wide variety of materials, including technical grade materials with different properties and the backing material, can be printed in a continuous process. This multi-material capability increases productivity, reduces unit costs and creates more flexibility in the industrial production of 3D printed objects.
The three families of Cubic Ink printing media:
1. High performance
- Series 1: Excellent strength and heat resistance up to 193 Â° C, ideal for applications with hot liquids in the engine compartment.
- Series 4: Good balance between thermal deflection temperature of 100 Â° C and toughness with elongation at break of up to 6% for maximum design freedom.
Three types of material:
- “Tough / Rigid” with very good dimensional stability for heavy duty applications.
- “Flexible” with varying degrees of hardness, adjustable elasticity and high detail sharpness for flexible or stretch components.
- “Clear” for optical components – high transparency and individually adaptable thanks to a variable refractive index.
âStandardâ and âfast dissolvingâ media. They are water-soluble, environmentally friendly and are automatically eliminated in a water bath without chemical solvents.
With cubic ink ALTANE expands the range of applications for pioneering solutions in the highly innovative field of 3D printing. ALTANA AG recently expanded its portfolio of 3D printing materials by acquiring the activities of TLS Technik GmbH & Co Spezialpulver KG and the British company Aluminum Materials Technologies Ltd. (AMT). In the hardware segment, ALTANA had already taken a stake in dp polar in 2017 and has since worked closely with the technology company based in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen near Karlsruhe.
polar dp is the manufacturer of the Inkjet AMpolar machine generation, the world’s first 3D printing system with a continuously rotating printing platform. Unlike previous processes, it is not the print head that moves, but the platform on which the printing is performed. The AMpolar i1, a more compact model, has a build volume of up to 240 liters and a printing platform of almost one square meter. This allows printing in layers between 4 and 25m, achieving excellent resolution up to 720 x 720 x 5000 dpi. This new system complements the AMpolar i2 system with a build volume of approximately 700 liters. Even the most compact model has a larger build volume than previous printing systems available on the market in the material jet industry. Components can be produced up to 20 times faster in greater numbers.
The Cubic Ink printing material families now introduced for industrial production open up completely new possibilities in product manufacturing, especially for users in the automotive and aerospace industries, but also in medical technology (including orthotics).
