Artwork by 6-year-old catches the attention of an Evansville police officer

EVANSVILLE, Indiana (WFIE) – A six-year-old Evansville boy has been busy making art for the Evansville Police Department after an officer’s visit to Vann Park.

Aiy’Den Scott-Drain even got a request from EPD chief Billy Bolin. He requested a custom piece after Officer Korey Winn found out about Aiy’Den’s work in Vann Park. Since then, Aiy’Den has produced several pieces for EPD.

“It makes me happy because they are going to remember that I did this piece of art,” Scott-Drain said.

Scott-Drain’s mother, Mary, says it all started with finger painting, and now he’s making a profit. But he doesn’t keep all the money.

“I started my art business when I was two and split my dollar in four,” Scott-Drain said. “25% that I give back, 25% that I use to buy more equipment, 25% that I invest, and 25% that I can use for myself.”

EPD officials say they also want to give back.

Deputy Chief Phil Smith says stopping to talk to kids like Aiy’Den helps the community see past the badge.

“It is very important as a police officer to come out and let people know who you are as a human, because the problems that we see not only in our city but in other places, you don’t don’t stop to get yourself out of these problems, ”says Smith.

Smith says they are implementing a new program to help raise awareness.

“This year is our walk Wednesdays where we get out of the car on Wednesdays, walk to a different neighborhood,” Smith said. “We get with our crime prevention unit, pick a CPO that has an area of responsibility, show us your community,” Smith says.

Aiy’Den says his art is the way he reaches out.

“It’s not about the money, it’s about what you do to people because some people are shocked to see little kids like me doing this, and I have four businesses and not one,” Scott said. -Drain.

You can see all of Scott-Drain’s businesses on their website,
